1984: Yet another obscure and equally talented act, Frankie Goes to Hollywood, topped the UK singles chart with the “The Power of Love”, their third and final #1 of their short and illustrious career. Godley & Creme directed a nativity themed video for the single and the artwork also used traditional iconography.

I would hardly call them obscure! They were everywhere in the mid 80s. Extremely controversial and famous.
