A forgotten heaven

The music video of Belinda Carlisle’s “Heaven Is A Place On Earth” features an appearance of her husband Morgan Mason as well as children wearing black masks and a cape while holding on to the obvious illuminated plastic globe. Carlisle wears a sampo initially but later changes to a black off-the-shoulder blouse. Partial filming took place at Six Flags Magic Mountain theme park in Valencia, California, on the Spin Out ride.
Backup vocalists on the track include songwriters Nowels and Shipley as well as Michelle Phillips of The Mamas & The Papas and songwriter Diane Warren. It even featured Thomas Dolby on keyboards…surprisingly timeless if given another run on VH1 although the chorus' familiarity becomes all too embarrassing.
Obscure cover versions include The Shadows’ instrumental version in 1989 on “Steppin’ to the Shadows”, Gregorian’s cover version on the album “Masters of Chant Chapter IV” and an Italian folk metal band Elvenking on their 2008 album “Two Tragedy Poets (…and a Caravan of Weird Figures). Yet another example of artistic juxtaposition that creates a modern abomination.
