21 March 1981: REO Speedwagon reached #1 on the US singles chart with “Keep On Loving You”, the group’s first Top 40 hit and first #1 as well, a #7 hit in the UK. The Hi Infidelity album roared to the top of the US charts and became their ticket to headlining large concerts.
21 March 1984: Strawberry Fields, a designated area in Central Park, bought by Yoko Ono in memory of her late husband was opened.
21 March 1985: Bruce Springsteen began his second leg of his Born in the USA world tour at Sydney Entertainment Centre, Sydney, Australia.
21 March 1987: Club Nouveau enjoyed their two week run at #1 on the US singles chart with their Bill Withers’ “Lean on Me” cover version, a #3 hit in the UK. U2 scored yet another #1 album with “The Joshua Tree”, featuring the hit singles “Where The Streets Have No Name” and “I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For”. It became the fastest selling album in UK history and the first album to sell a million CD’s spending an awe inspiring 156 weeks on the UK chart. The album reached the #1 position in the US as well. On 21 March 2009 U2 went to the top of the US album chart with “No Line on the Horizon”, their twelfth studio album.
