The Retroscope: 24 April

24 April 1981: New Order started work on their first album, Movement, at Strawberry studios in Stockport, England. The band was initially not well received by critics or fans of the old Joy Division at it only peaked at #30 on the UK album chart. Due to obvious natural progression from the Ian Curtis era Slant magazine eventually dubbed Movement as existing almost exactly in between Joy Division’s post punk sound and the synth pop style that would define them and influence pop music for decades. Strange, that the music of the modern era is just not inspiring anything at the moment!
A re-united New Order has recently announced a run of North American tour dates and some would include cities the had never visited before. The tour will kick off on July 19 2013.
