The Retroscope: 26 April

26 April 1980: British ska band, The Beat, released “Mirror In The Bathroom”, the first digitally recorded single in the UK. 26 April 1982: Rod Stewart, during a shopping trip, was robbed of his $50 000 Porshe on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles – a decade of excess indeed! 26 April 1986: The suave Bryan Ferry and his enigmatic minions, Roxy Music, started their graceful five week swoop at #1 on the UK album chart with “Street Life – 20 Greatest Hits”. Van Halen started their three week run as well at #1 on the US album chart with “5150”. This was the first album to be recorded with new lead singer Sammy Hagar, who replaced David Lee Roth. The album was apparently named after Eddie Van Halen’s home studio, 5150, which is the California police term for a mentally disturbed person. http://www.bubblews.com/news/438694-the-retroscope-26-april
