The Retroscope: 10 May
10 May 1985: All girl group The Go-Go’s announced their break up after creatting a brief impression on the pop charts. Belinda Carlisle and Jane Wiedlin went on to enjoy solo success and the group reformed in the late 90’s. The break seemed inevitable after the illness of Charlotte Caffey and heart surgery to Gina Shock.
10 May 1986: Falco reached #1 on the UK singles chart with “Rock Me Amadeus”. He became the first ever Austrian act to score a UK and US #1 and the first German speaking artist to achieve a US#1 hit…! Another forgotten hero from the eighties I’m afraid.
10 May 1986: The Pet Shop Boys scored a #1 hit on the US singles chart with “West End Girls”, their first US #1, a UK #1 hit as well.
