A question of style?
One of the more stylish and underrated bands from the eighties in my view would be the German new wave group, Alphaville. As with most bands during this era most of their tracks could easily have been a soundtrack to a sci-fi movie or romantic comedy. Fronted by the talented lyricist, Marion Gold and supported by the pensive-looking Frank Mehrtens and Bernhard Lloyd and later the equally mysterious Ricky Echolette. I do consider them to be more of a complete band due to their esoteric lyrical content, their epic themes of musical landscapes and of course, their evergreen elegance and flamboyance reminiscent on the "Afternoons in Utopia" album. This is just another fine example of good music in a content driven industry during that era.
