Madonna's "Like a Prayer" was released on February 28, 1989 by Sire Records as the first single from the album. This song also appears on the greatest hits compilation albums The Immaculate Collection (1990) and Celebration (2009). The collaboration with Patrick Leonard showed a more artistic and personal approach to songwriting that distinguishes her from the junior divas of today. Again, unlike her contemporary contenders, this song went on to have a huge impact on popular culture and the popularity of the Madonna brand due to both it's promotional video and the song itself. It became her seventh number-one single on the Billboard Hot 100, while reaching the top of the charts in Australia, Canada, Japan, and the United Kingdom and the top-five of many other countries.
