1983: Kirk Hammet joined Metallica.
1984: Marvin Gaye, at the age of 44, was killed by his father. Gaye's father received probation after he pled guilty to voluntary manslaughter.
1985: David Lee Roth left Van Halen to pursue a solo career. Tom Bailey of the Thompson Twins collapsed from exhaustion while staying at the Holiday Inn, Chelsea.
