Addicted To Love
Bold, sexy and ultra modern – this was Robert Palmer’s steamy signature hit of the eighties featured on the supreme Riptide album. The song had breached the Billboard Hot 100 chart the week ending 8 February 1986 and eventually topped the Billboard Hot 100, as well as the Billboard Top Rock Tracks chart and the Top Ten Billboard’s Soul Chart. It also became one of the 45RPM singles to receive a million selling Gold certification.
Chaka Khan, his original duet partner, was not granted by her record company to work on Palmer’s label, Island Records. She is, however, credited for the vocal arrangements in the album liner notes.
The iconic music video featured Palmer performing with an abstract band comprised of pale, stolid models fashioned like the women of Patrick Nagel paintings. Palmer plays the role of a veteran playboy that seemed like a simple exercise in “cool”.
It was ranked at #3 on VH1’s Top 20 videos of the 1980”s accurately depicting the suave fashion themes midway through the decade.
