16 May 1981: Former New Christy Minstrels member, Kim Carnes, started a nine week run at #1 on the US singles chart with “Bette Davis Eyes”, her only US #1 and a #10 hit in the UK. The record won the 1982 Grammy Awards for both Record Of The Year and Song Of The Year.
16 May 1987: U2 started their two week run at #1 on the US singles chart with the hearbreaking “With Or Without You”, their first #1 hit. It is the third track on their album, The Joshua Tree, which became their most successful single at the time.
