7 May 1983: Paul Weller unveiled his new group Style Council at an anti-nuclear gig in London. Weller had linked up with former Merton Parkas, Dexys Midnight Runners and Bureau member, Mick Talbot. The band’s musical direction was heavily influenced by Weller’s long standing interesting in soul, Motown sounds in particular.
7 May 1988: Son of Pentecostal Minister father and gospel singer mother, Terence Trent D’Arby reached #1 on the UK singles chart with “Wishing Well”, a #4 hit in the UK. Although a rare talent in his time he reckoned he could be bigger than MJ!
