Not remembered for their haircuts

Level 42 have appeared on TOTP more than most due to their hugely successful jazz funk crossover appeal. "Leaving me now" showed a changing emphasis from musicianship to songwriting. This was a painful process considering that John Gould, the brother of members Phil And Boon was replaced by Paul Crockford.(He was part of the management team that steered Tears for Fears onto massive success and was probably brought in to conquer America. However, the musicianship aspect and their committment to music was still affirmed in their live performances. Thank goodness they never slipped into blind slickness jazz funk acts usually do even though their live shows were terribly rehearsed.

Level 42 brings back such good memories. They not only made great music, they had some good lyrics too. Some of their songs you could really move your feet to!
