Who were the New Romantics?
New romanticism emerged in the early 80's as an ostentious expression of the punk movement bound to the working class. Although this period cannot be pinned by any peculiar sound or approach but rather depicting this transition. The synthesizer become key to this new sound probably due to the capabilities of this new technology evoking surrealism as the Romantic literary period did. Howver, confusion creeps in when a differentiation should be made between New Wave, New Romantic and Futurist - who cares really as all camps wore mascara and proceeded to produce perfect pop which continuous to eclipse modern chart offerings today. Prominent players were Duran Duran and Spandau Ballet with the former currently applying their trade and looking as glamourous as they did thirty years ago.
