This is the fad machine
Backed by mass media promotion and sophisticated marketing fads in the music industry exploded virtually overnight and vanished within a blink of an eye. The fad machine prepares in advance for shorter and shorter product lifecycles fully entrenched and embraced as part of the modern economy. Fads are engineered to be artificial yet mass media is eager to popularize it and corporates geared for its exploitation. Subsequently, the line between fad and ordinary product has blurred or within context, 80's music (and other earlier eras) and the exploits of the modern transcient society.
