"New wave became synonymous to the start of an intriguing decade and as the name suggested a paradigm shift in pop culture was inevitable. The best selling motorcycles in South Africa in 1980 were all Japenese: Honda 8126; Yamaha 7434; Suzuki 7364 and Kawasaki 4259. On Tuesday 9 September 1980 there were share transactions totalling R 38 8000 000 while on 10 September 1980 the figure was R 43 700 000. The Premier Milling Co Ltd was the largest food manufacturing and distributing group in Southern Africa and in 1980 turnover was R 1 205 000 000 and its staff numbered 27 154. The same year saw the largest wine crop ever harvested in South Africa measuring 7 068 711 hectolitres or 167 000 000 gallons. Blondie's "Call Me" topped the singles charts in both the US and UK. This became the band's biggest selling single in the Us and their second #1 and fouth #1 in the UK. It peaked for 6 consecutive weeks and was certified Gold by RIAA (Recording Industry Assocition of America). It also spent four weeks at number two on the US dance chart and as a grand finale #1 on Billboard Magazine's 1980 year-end. A dance band with adult appeal - remember those?
