18 April: Yes bassist Chris Squire and drummer Alan White began rehearsing with the remain members of Led Zeppelin, leading to rumours of the death of Yes and the formation of a new band dubbed XYZ. The rumoured band never materialized and Yes reformed under their old name for the hit 1983 album 90125.
18 April 1984: Michael Jackson went into surgery in Los Angeles. Doctors performed scalp surgery to repair damage after Jackson's hair caught fire during the filming of a Pepsi commercial on January 27.
18 April 1985: Wham became the first Western act to release a pop album, "Make it Big!", in China.
18 April 1987: Aretha Franklin scores a #1 US hit with "I knew you were waiting for me", a duet with George Michael. Her first number one in 19 years and ten months, it broke the record for the longest span between #1 hits.
18 April 1989: The album "Twice Shy" was released by Great White.
