14 March 1981: Eric Clapton cancelled his US tour as he was hospitalized with bleeding ulcers. He was back in five weeks though after being involved in a car crash. Roxy Music scored their #1 hit on the UK single chart with their version of John Lennon’s masterpiece “Jealous Guy”. It reached number one in several countries three months after Lennon’s death.
14 March 1982: Metallica made their live debut at Radio City in Anaheim, California.
14 March 1983: Jon Bon Jovi, Richie Sambora and Alec John Such formed Bon Jovi.
14 March 1984: Annie Lennox married Hare Krishna devotee Radha Raman but started divorce proceedings a year later! Rainbow played their last ever gig as a band in Japan.
14 March 1985: Dead or Alive scored the number one single “You Spin Me Round, Like a Record”. The group was kicked off the UK music television show “The Tube” after admitting they were incapable of playing live.
14 March 1987: Boy George scored his first UK #1 single as a solo artist with the David Gates song “Everything I own".
