The Retroscope: 12 May

12 May 1984: Lionel Richie started his two week run at #1 on the US chart with “Hello”, his second US solo #1, a number one hit in the UK as well. It was the third single off his multi-platinum album “Can’t Slow Down”. The album also became Motown’s all time best seller achieving more than 14 million sales worldwide. This song became particularly memorable for the line “Hello, is it me you’re looking for?. Apparently Richie had been thnked by a large number of uninspired, tongue tied men who had proposed marriage after a slow dance to the song. http://www.bubblews.com/news/500181-the-retroscope-12-may
