2 May 1980: Joy Division played their last gig with singer Ian Curtis at Birmingham University, England. Curtis committed suicide two weeks later.
2 May 1983: Spandau Ballet reached #1 on the UK singles chart with “True”, their only #1 hit though. The band was formed by young Londoners to provide a soundtrack for “futurist/new romantic” activities in ultra fashion conscious London night clubs.
2 May 1987: Cutting Crew started their two week run at #1 on the US singles chart with “(I Just) Died In Your Arms”, a #4 hit in the UK.
