The Retroscope: 29 June
29 June 1985: David Bowie and Mick Jagger recorded their version of the Martha Reeves and the Vandellas 1964 hit “Dancing In The Street” for the phenomenal forthcoming “Live Aid” fundraising event. No surprises that it went to become a #1 UK hit and # 7 in the United States. The video was shown twice at this event and was soon issued as a single with all the profits going to the charity. The song featured on several Bowie compilations portraying his lighter persona due to its stong biographical theme.
29 June 1988: The Guardian newspaper reported that many CD’s will eventually fade and distort over the next few years due to manufacturing faults, sending shock waves through the music industry.
