The Retroscope: 28 June
28 June 1986: Wham! scored their fourth and final #1 hit on the UK singles chart with “The Edge of Heaven”. Wham! also played their farewell concert on this day in front of 80 000 fans at Wembley Stadium, London. The album was called “The Final” and Elton John, a friend of Michael and Ridgeley, played piano on the track. Michael described the lyrics as “deliberately and overtly sexual, especially the first verse. He though nobody would actually care as “no one listens to a Wham! lyric. It had got to that stage.”
